An OC I've been wanting to make.
A character that is directly influenced by music.
He's a Painted Bunting. ; w ;
He needs a name though.

@Kurona: The definitions of FC and OC are incredibly unhelpful.

Reply Kurona, October 12th, 2013, 10:16 am

How so?

Reply Draven22, October 12th, 2013, 10:23 am

oh i had a similar idea, where the character was a mute and played pieces of a song to talk

Reply Syogren, October 12th, 2013, 10:32 am

@Kurona: Basically, it's an OC if it doesn't LOOK like a canon character, even if it interacts with them and isn't original at all. And it's a FC if it even remotely looks a character that already exists, even if it has an original personality and lives in its own universe with its own friends, enemies, and goals. Basically, the definitions are very superficial and only care about what the character looks like, rather than what is deep inside them.

Reply Kurona, October 12th, 2013, 10:36 am

That's not the definitions I had at all.

Reply Syogren, October 12th, 2013, 11:49 am

@Kurona: Oh. Well those are the definitions that normally seem to be used.

Reply Kurona, October 12th, 2013, 11:50 am

That's stupid.

Reply Syogren, October 12th, 2013, 11:55 am

@Kurona: IKR

So..OC = Doesn't look anything like current Sonic franchise characters, but like..hangs out and interacts with them

And FC = Recolor/unoriginal but has it's own group of friends, enemies, goals, and have nothing to do with main Sonic characters.

Is that the internet's definition?

@ItachiThe Hedgehog

You got facts mixed up.

Reply King_Rover, October 12th, 2013, 1:47 pm

OC - Original Characters - unless depicted with a certain art design that can completely stand on it's own.

FC - Fan Characters - Heavily based on franchises are either based with or in the surrounding area of the content like the Sonic fanbase, sometimes they're mere recolors or are neat designs.

Sometimes Neat Fan Character designs could be alter with a different style and can stand as it's own original character.

But it's a personal thing and how you view your character is personal.

Doctor Rover for example is an original character

He started out as a Fan character known as Rover the Hedgehog.

Though design choices and ideas made two Rovers.

I do have a Sonic Fan Character called Rover but he's unrelated to my Original Character Doctor Rover.

Rover the Hedgehog is a Hobo Hedgehog

Doctor Rover is Immortal.

Blah blah blah Some people here are backwards.

Reply King_Rover, October 12th, 2013, 1:57 pm Here is an example of what I said.

Ultimately you can't have a Sonic Original Character because that would make it a Sonic Fan Character.

Could you have this character as an Original Character?

Can you still use the Sonic Art Style?

Can you put him and Sonic in the same universe and call him an Original Character?

He will be consider a Sonic Fan Character no if or buts.

Can he stand as it own OC?

@broblade12 - Check what Itachi said

@ItachiThe Hedgehog - Your OC Description is wrong.

No matter how bad or good your Character design is, if you put him with Sonic or a furry related universe

It becomes a Fan character

It can only become an Original Character if the company accepts your design and uses it.

That has never happened.

Reply King_Rover, October 12th, 2013, 5:06 pm

@broblade12: Still a fan character, bad or good or almost uncanny if it's related to Sonic's Universe.

It will always be a fan character.

No acceptation.

Reply The Wonderous Kitsu, October 12th, 2013, 10:09 pm

@King_Rover: hmm.

I have a question. My main character's sprites are that of a mobian-esque character, but he isn't mobian, and his story consists of a completely different universe, and different worlds. The plot he exists in has no canon sonic characters, and has nothing related to the sonic universe.

Is he still a fc, or is he an OC.

Because this whole fc-oc thing is confusing to me.

Reply King_Rover, October 12th, 2013, 10:17 pm

@The Wonderous Kitsu: Then by all means he's an original character.

The Mobian-esque part might make some say otherwise but if you can get out the Sonic Art style or create your own style you can greatly reduce the allegations.

But that's up to you but how you handle it; is an Original character. (Just note that first impression screams Sonic Fan character)

Reply The Wonderous Kitsu, October 12th, 2013, 10:21 pm

@King_Rover: woo. yeah but i really need to learn how to draw and sprite furry people that aren't mobians. anyway, thanks.
